Heather Rose is a dark figurative artist raised in the woods on New England. Her work is inspired by untamed nature, folklore, and the occult. Lately, she works mostly in inks and pastels, but can never be tied down to just one medium.
People see my work and say “why is it so dark?”, “why can’t you just paint something pretty?” They want flowers, landscapes, sunrises. If you want those things, just open your eyes. I paint the things that I feel, the things that I see when my eyes are closed. The people who don't like it, well perhaps it's not for them. I paint for myself, and I paint for those who see the beauty in the darkness.
